abm catering limited are proud to have retained International Standards accreditation in both
ISO:9001 – Quality Management and ISO:14001 – Environmental Management, following an audit in
June.
ISO:9001 and ISO:14001 are International Standards that require businesses to analyse and assess any
risks or opportunities for improvements within their business. The ISO:9001 standard focuses on quality
management and is aimed at ensuring that businesses are legally compliant and have appropriate
policies and procedures in place to ensure that the business is run as efficiently as possible. ISO:14001 is
primarily aimed at assisting organisations to manage their environmental footprint and reducing their
impact on the environment. This standard enables organisations to look at all of the impacts they may
have on the environment and analyse areas for improvement.
abm catering limited have transitioned to the most up-to-date 2015 accreditation after previously
holding both 2008 accreditations which focused on policies and procedures. The new version of the
standards targets a holistic, risk-based approach to quality and environmental standards which fits
hand-in-hand with how abm catering manages its business. These international standards ensure we
meet and review all applicable legislations, ensuring we are fully legally compliant. In addition, they
help companies put procedures in place to ensure that we always evaluate potential risk when we are
making changes to the business.
Following the news of our successful retainment our Health & Safety Manager, Clare Hanna said: “I am
delighted that our hard work into the application of the new ISO 9001: and 14001 standards throughout
abm have been recognised by our auditors, The British Assessment Bureau. It is my responsibility to
manage the systems internally and raise any issues or concerns to the senior management team here
at abm catering. The senior management team have embraced the new standards with a renewed
vigour and commitment and we have made conscious efforts to implement the standards throughout
each area of the business.”
The standards require the business to follow the ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ cycle which has been
implemented. The transition from the old version of the standard to the 2015 version has taken 6 months
in total, allowing time to review manuals and implement changes. In addition, the standards require us
to conduct regular internal audits to help identify areas of improvement and where we need to place
more focus.
