abm’s catering team at Headlands Primary School in York have
been nominated and shortlisted for the LACA Primary School Catering Team of the
Year Awards 2019.
The LACA (Lead Association for
Catering in Education) Awards acknowledge individuals and teams who continue to
make a real difference to education catering. Good management, strong
performance and high achievements deserve to be recognised and an acknowledgment
of effort is important to both reward and sustain motivation. Being nominated
for a LACA award gives a sense of prestige and honour at a personal level and
raises the professional reputation of the school employing the award winners.
The abm team at Headlands Primary
School were nominated for the fantastic job they do providing healthy and
balanced meals for the pupils every day. Due to their engagement working
closely with the Head Teacher and the parents / guardians of the pupils, the
meal numbers have increased significantly by 16%.
As well as providing nutritious
meals for the pupils every day, the team at Headlands regularly arrange and
assist with various added value events. These range from the Head Teacher’s
‘Treat Days’ where the pupils get the chance to take part in a special session
for example; a gingerbread person decorating workshop; to abm’s own ‘Smoothie
Bike’ workshop where our free-standing bikes make smoothies when you pedal them.
Pupils choose their own healthy ingredients, blend it up with their own pedal
power and then get to enjoy their creation, all whilst learning about the
benefits of the various healthy ingredients.
These events have raised the
profile of the catering service at Headlands with the parents / guardians and has
created a fantastic working partnership between the school and abm catering;
resulting in increased enthusiasm and a passion for a healthy school meal
option.
In addition to all of this, our
Chef Manager at the school regularly meets with the parents and guardians of
the pupils who have special dietary requirements to confirm the procedures and
discuss the dishes served in great detail.
Alison Lisney, Operations Manager
for Headlands Primary School said: “I am
so proud of the team at Headlands! Their determination, enthusiasm, commitment,
passion and innovation made them worthy nominees and hopefully will make them
worthy winners!”
The LACA Yorkshire and Humber
Excellence Awards evening is being held on 14th June where our
wonderful team will get to enjoy a cruise along the River Ouse in York followed
by a BBQ and disco to celebrate the excellent work of them and many other teams
across the region.
We wish our team all the very best for the awards ceremony
and hope they enjoy the BBQ and party!
